artist
Lydia Martin
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Lydia Martin has always had a passion and desire for the arts. Her mother was a watercolorist and always encouraged Lydia's creative endeavors. Drawing with graphite and colored pencil was her focus at an early age.
Later she graduated from The Advertising Arts College (which is now The Art Institute of California) to pursue a career in Graphic Design.
After eight years in this field she took a dramatic and bold career change and went back to her roots in traditional mediums, but this time trying her hand in painting. The result has yielded a life-changing experience and she now shows and sells her paintings all over the world and has been published in several magazines.
Her work is said to be figurative, feminine and strongly emotional, mixing elements of nature with portraiture.
She also does a variety of commissioned work.

Inspiration comes from many places...
For me, I get the most inspiration from elements of nature and the complications of human relationships. But sometimes I see a photo by a friend and fellow artist that makes my thoughts wander and compells me to use some of the elements in the photo to tell my version of the same story or a completely new tale. I always get permission to do this from the artist/model but I also feel like I need to give credit where credit is due. So this page is a list of Models, Photographers and other artists that have inspired specific paintings I have done. Please support their art by clicking the small arrow in the bottom right corner of each picture to visit their websites.
